Offensive Discussion
The whole object to the offensive side of the game is to advance the ball across the opponent's goal line. Made up of 11 men in many different arrangements.
Quarterback (QB)
Is the leader of the team. He runs the huddle and calls the play and snap count. The quarterback stands behind the center and receives the ball from the center. The quarterback can hand the ball off to a running back or pass the ball to a back or receiver, or a third option is that he can run with the ball himself.
Running Backs
Running Back/Tailback(RB/TB)- is the quickest of the backs. He stands behind the fullback usually in a two point stance. His jobs are to catch passes, take hand-offs, or block.
Fullback(FB)- Is the biggest of the backs. He stands right behind the quarterback in a three point stance. He is usually used as a blocker in the backfield or as a lead blocker, but he can catch passes or take hand-offs.
Wingback(WB)- Is found in the wing formations. He is usually found standing back off the offensive line where the tight end would be found. His main responsiblity is receiving passes, but is also used to block and take hand-offs.
Wide Receivers (WR)
These men are usually the fastest and tallest players on the team. Their main responsibilty is to catch passes and taking defensive backs out of running plays. Rarely they will take a hand-off and aren't that good of blockers. They are found close to the sidelines to the outside of the offensive line.
Tight Ends (TE)
These guys are mainly used as blocking receivers. they are found right beside the tackles on the offensive line. They are big and fast much like a fullback. They catch, block, but rarely take a hand-off.
Linemen
Main responsibilty is to block. They can't catch the ball.
Center(C)- Is found in the middle of the offensive line. He is large in build. His main responsibilty is to give the ball cleanly to the quarterback then block.
Guards(G)- Are found on each side of the center. They are the smaller of the linemen and must be quick, because they tend to run to get to a block.
Tackles(T)- Are the biggest of the offensive linemen and are found on the outside of each guard. They have to be big in order to stop strong outside rushers.
Holes are between each linemen and are numbered even to the right and odd to the left these numbers are used to call play to go through those holes. (Much as seen below)
9 WR 7      5 LT 3 LG 1 C 0 RG 2 RT 4 TE 6     WR 8
